Recreating an "old" recording?

Question

When one watches old movies or listens to old radio shows most of the announcers or talent sound the same. There is also a different sound to the recording altogether. How could I recreate this? Please do not answer with the old radio effect in audition/cool edit pro, I am looking for more than just this.

ok then how about microphone? Some recording artists among others I've heard of using the older style or even original period microphones as the characteristics of it are different than say today's microphones such as using a carbon microphone which have a very limited frequency response meaning most sound the same
