Recruiting as a Marine West of the Mississippi While Living on the East Coast?

Is it possible to travel to the West side of the Mississippi River to recruit as a Marine in MCRD San Diego (A.K.A. a "Hollywood Marine") rather than Parris Island

without actually living West of the Mississippi? (And yes I'm crazy enough to travel that far just to do that so don't get smart)

  1. I dont think so. they may go by your mail address, or then again they may just decide to put you in one or the other

    depending on nothing in particular.

as they used to say, there is the right way and the wrong way and the military wya.

  2. No its not. They go by the address that you live at. The only exceptions to the East/West rule are that if you're a female you always to to Parris Island and if you have immediate family who graduated from one MCRD then you can request to go there as a "legacy".

  3. I've heard of kids who live on the east side of Ole Miss, who drive across the bridge and enlist... then drive back home.  Not sure if they have to give the address of a family member on the west side or not...

Here... go to http://www.todaysmilitary.com  Follow the links to ask a recruiter a question... then there will be a place where you can put in a zip code for "your" area... and it'll give you the local recruiting offices for that area.  Put in a zip code west of the Mississippi and they'll tell you the truth.  Your local guys will want credit for the enlistment, so might not be quite so forthcoming with good answers... :)
