  1. I've been to quite a few careers fairs.  Treat it like an interview as you will be meeting potential employers.

    1. Make sure that you are smartly dressed, but comfortable, as these fairs do involve a lot of walking around!

    2. Go to the careers fair website and print off a list of the companies/employers who will be there.

    3. Make a list of the companies that you wish to speak to and tick them off as you do so.  That way you won't get to the end of the day not having spoken to a company on your list.

    4. Very important: take lot's of printed copies of your CV.  Keep them in a hard back file so that they are presentable and not crumpled or dog-eared.  You'll want these to hand to potential employers.

    5. Ensure that you have a bottle of water with you and a packed lunch.  You never know if and what food or drink will be provided at these events so it's best to be prepared.

    6. Arrive at the start of the fair so that you get to speak to the companies that interest you before it gets too busy.  The company representatives are more likely to listen to you more when they're feeling 'fresh' at the start of the day - rather than at the end of the day, having spoken to numerous potential candidates.

    7. Do some research on some of the companies that you are interested in.  It really helps if you show that you know something about the company and what they do.

    8. Be prepared to answer some interview-like questions, as you have to begin selling yourself as soon as the fair begins.

    9. If there are any recruitment agencies at the fair make sure that you give them a copy of your CV.  They will pass them onto companies that may not be at the fair.

    10. Make use of the CV and application form writing workshops that are usually running at these fairs.  This service is often provided for free at recruitment fairs and it can be invaluable.

    11. Smile (sometimes).  Do be aware that potential recruiters will be taking into account your personality, as well as your experience and qualifications.

I hope you enjoy the day.

  2. A recruitment fair  - lots of companies giving out leaflets and speaking to managers and giving your cv and if anything is available that suits you they will contact you.
