Question:

Recurring dream about school... what does it mean?

Ever since I can remember, I have frequent--and many memorable--dreams wherein I am living in a school setting. They are often different, but I have attended some of the same schools more than once. This has been going on for years. I am 20 now. I am a college student, but I hardly dream about the schools I am actually going to. I do regular things like take class and talk to friends. Some of my dreams have involved strange events at the schools, etc. They have not always been academic schools either; I have attended a flight school in some of my dreams. Why am I always dreaming about this?

  1. School is somehow a important part in your life!!

  2. Funny thing.  I have a recurring dream about being at a Chinese restaurant in the middle of a field.  Reason?  None.

You see, our minds are funny things - they have almost a "second life" while we are sleeping.

I highly doubt that you are seeing visions or anything of that sort; I feel that your mind has simply held its same creative memories for all these years!  Do you think about school a lot?  Are you highly academic?  Think about your priorities, and you may realize that your dreams are a combination of lifestyle, memories, and things of great importance!

Along with this, I'd journal your dreams. Don't write down past ones; begin the journal the next time you have one of these dreams. Write some brief details. After 5 dreams or so, ask yourself these things: Do I notice any similarities in my dreams to the topics I have been learning about or the things that have been going on in life?

You may not think this will work right now, but after a while of writing all of the dreams down, reasons may begin to click.

Now, if these dreams are making you uncomfortable in any way, I'd see a therapist.  Not for any serious treatment or anything, just so you can get your mind off these silly dreams and/or understand why you're having them.

Tip: don't visit a psychic.  Some are real amongst many fakes; but even then, they are not necessarily doing the healthiest things for them or their customers. It's best to stay out of that field.

I hope that this will help you!

  3. Only you can be sat down and made to determine the true meaning.

If this experience or these experiences are pleasurable to you, meaning you wake without fear or worry, then it could be part of a wish fulfillment.  You like school and it is such a big part of your daily activities, and I am sure nightly with studying, it is a dominant theme while awake and transfers while sleeping.

If it is fearful then it can be your minds way of dealing with stress of school.  Your body and mind experiencing in its own way that you not only go to school to learn but it has become a part of who you are, you breathe, eat, and sleep school.

Just two examples, but remember, only you can unlock the true meaning.  Just look at what has happened to you in the past week and notice how you feel about dreaming of school; you can do wonders by thinking of these two things and analyzing on your own.

  4. Haha, it depends. Would you consider having dreams about schools nightmares (A lot of students do lol)? If not, then you shouldn't worry much about it. Perhaps you have some passion for school?

  5. maybe you're meant to be a teacher

  6. you would really have to go into more detail for me to give you a detailed answer, but i think you dream about school because that has made up the majority of your experience in life and you also think about school alot, not just in your dreams.  our dreams help us to learn from our experiences.  they are also just a mental dump where relatively meaningless info and experiences get played out because that is whatever happens to be in our subconscious.  as long as your dreams about school are not disturbing to you i wouldn't worry about it.
