Recycle a broken coffeemaker?

Where can I recycle a broken coffee maker? Can the plastic parts be ground down and used for some other thing? What about the metal? Is this beneicial to the environment, or does it just create more pollutants? I have tried to freecycle it, but no one has responded. If all else fails, I will make it into a planter as a reminder

  1. pardon me...I'd like to take some time here to address your concerns but I'm in a hurry to go buy a cheap coffeemaker at the new mall that was built on top of a mountain top removal(coal)site..(you think you got problems)....bury the thing..throw it in a deep lake and let the minnows have a condo!...better yet, your local arts and crafts place probibly has the lamp kits....make a freakin' lamp out of it and paint it green! then have an " enviro's cappichino brunch " and talk about how you can have local grade schoolers to take this on as a project! We'll all feel better in the morning.

  2. Check if your county offers electronic waste recycling.  The plastic may not be recycled, but the metal most definately will.  Even if they just trash the plastic pieces, the recycled metal benefits the environment because it avoids mining virgin materials.

  3. try www.earth911.org they can usually guide you in the right direction for almost any item you are trying to recycle.

I would also see if they will take it at an e-waste recycling center.

If you haven't replaced it a greener option is a French press.

Ignore those people who just want to be negative about green efforts. The earth is becoming more polluted and there is nothing wrong with taking personal responsibility for your contribution to the problem.

  4. making a planter out of it is recycling --- Mr Andy's wrong nothing in nature makes plastic except man-and plastic even ground up will never recycle into nature again it can be made into more or different plastic but the smaller the particle the more chance to enter the food chain--and nothing so far eats plastic without damage to it's self--period......nothing
