Should you take the paper off of the glass before you recycle it? For example: Should I take off the paper Snapple label before I recycle the glass bottle? How about the cap? And would it be the same for water bottles too?

  1. labels don't matter ,but I always take the lids off

  2. The paper labels are removed during the recycling process.  Don't worry about them.  Do however remove the plastic caps to recycle separately.

  3. I am not sure about the labels, but I have heard that you should not recycle the caps. We throw those away. I never take the paper off of my glass, but now I am curious. They have this website that may help, it is   idealbite.com    You can research some things on there i believe.

  4. Hi,

No you don't have to remove the labels from bottles but you should remove the bottle caps.  If the bottle cap is metal it can be recycled in the bin for drinks and food cans, etc.

If the bottle cap is plastic check to see if it is type 1 or 2 plastic ( there should be a triangle symbol inside the cap).  If the plastic cap is type 1 or 2 you can recycle it in the plastic recycling bin.

  5. Paper is recyclable, take off the cap same thing with water bottles

  6. Everyone has pretty much given you the same answers.

    I'm going to  as well!!

You don't have to take the labels off, but you could do if you wanted, you then can be sure that they are getting recycled.

As for the lids, you must remove these. Often, especially on plastic bottles the lids are made from a different type of plastic which cant be recycled - strange I know!. Some councils do recycle more plastic types than others, for example I believe that mine will only accept plastic bottles, and if from fizzy drinks they will only take it if it is green or clear plastic. While other councils will take things like those plastic trays veg come in  - (that you shouldn't be buying anyway as you're being green now and that means local produce in no packaging or at most a paper bag!!)

But check on your local councils website as to what types they will and won't accept or for youe nearest recycling centre, for things like juice cartons (tetra paks).

    Hope this helps

    Bright Blessings ; )

  7. You can leave the paper on as it will be washed off, but remove the cap, this makes it easier when they are sorting the different materials. ( they don't have to stop to take time to remove the cap)

    Happy free-cycling.

  8. We live in the Bay Area California and we take our cans and bottles to the recycling center to get the money back.  If you remove all those plastic lids you can recycle those also separately and get cash for them.
