I recently participated in the JUMP ROPE 4 HEART thing and i won a water bottle.

On the bottom of the water bottle, there is the recycling triangle.

But there is no number on the inside.

Its just a triangle but theres the letters "PE" on the bottom of the triangle.

Can someone tell me what this means?

Why there ISNT a number?

Is this water bottle safe to use ?

thank you

  2. PE stands for polyethylene.  There are 2 kinds of PE, high density and low density.  I'm surprised that there is no number in the recycle symbol, as the number indicates which type of PE it is.  It probably is the high density type, which is number 2.  It's generally considered safe to use, although there are some recent publications indicating that the softener used in these plastics (phthalate plasticizers) have been linked to some hormone-related problems.  These types of problems are usually from long term exposure from when someone is an infant.  If you have concerns, use a number 1 container, or go to something non-toxic, like glass.  You might want to try a web search (oops, I almost said to google it) on these plasticizers to get your own direct information.  I know of several European countries that have banned their use.

  3. yeah they are safe to use i got one a few years ago... not sure why their is no number though, it is recycle plastic
