right!!! I have been given the task of sorting out fancy dress outfits for our carnival - our theme is "recycling"!!!! HELP!!

We need 3 different options - 1) cardboard 2) plastic and 3)foil = the outfits are for children so they need to be fairly easy to make and lightweight - any ideas on just using these items to decorate them???? any ideas welcome - thanks

  1. a good title is bin bling. I think it's possible to sort them into groups like the way recycling bins are, like a glass theme and cans, maybe look at Leo Dicaprio's 11th hour my space page for inspiration.

  2. hello

Start with a head band (wide one)  wrap it with foil and glue gun it to the head band. You can also wrap a belt with foil and glue it on.

The plastic have the kids collect lids and attach them to the dress dangling.

The cardboard will be a poster saying somthing about recycle  or make crowns out of cardboard.

Have fun at carnival  my Mom is from Bolivia.

    Good Luck!

  3. May I ask: are you adding cardboard, plastic and foil decorations onto existing formals OR

are you creating formals out of cardboard, plastic and foil???

I have a lot of experience but I want to be sure I understand what you have to start with and the goal you wish to achieve?!!

After reading the other suggestions, I am guessing that You are the one woman committee to make fancy dresses out of cardboard, plastic and foil, so here goes my answer.

collect adult t-shirts, and then as much gaudy stuff as possible, things like large beaded necklaces and other jewelry, scarves, hats, boas ... all brightly colored.  Using the t-shirts as a foundation attach (with needle and threat)  the recyled bobbles, cardboard flowers, hawaiian plastic liehs, foil decorations etc.  When I had to do something of a similar nature I asked a bunch of the neighborhood kids to help - they were very creative with the correct placement.  They were dress-up age and did a wonderful job.  Good luck.

  4. Use black sacks as a base and then make things from cardboard, plastic and foil to attach to the bag.  Make a fan/hat from old magazines or newspapers.  Make bags and jewellery from the plastic and foil.  Sweets that have small foil squares are great as they are so colourful.  Earrings can be made with cardboard and foil.  Make hairbands too.  Make chaps from cardboard and decorate with pictures from magazines.  Wands, DreamCatchers, Shields, Cars, Rockets...the list is endless.  Just let your and the childrens imaginations loose and have a great time at the carnival :-)

  5. I would like to help you, but am not sure what you want.  Are you going to be decorating already made dresses or be making them out of the 3 choices?  Or are you looking for ways to recycle old dressy "fancy" dresses?  I am fairly good at crafty ideas with what people would call trash LOL.

  6. You could always cut squares of cardboard and sew them together to create a "material" and then cut out a summer dress pattern (no sleeves).  Use the foil and whatever else to dress up the design (paper punches work wonderfully to punch shapes out of foil).  The plastic "rings" that hold soda cans together make great bracelets and shawls - just hook them together by sewing, twist ties or taping.  You just need a creative kick and then the creative juices will flow.  Good luck and have fun!
