I recently read in a magazine that i can recycle paper, bottles, and other things and turn them in for cash. The article didn't really tell me how to go about doing this

does anyone know how or where i can turn that stuff in for money? I live in PA if that makes a difference

please and thank you!

  1. yes you can get cash for recycling but not much.

and you should recycle for the good of the enviorment not just for the cash.

  2. There are a couple of ways that you can get cash to recycle.

First, in some states, there is a per-can or per-bottle deposit.  In these states, you pay a few cents extra at the supermarket for each can or bottle you buy, and you get these few cents back when you return the can or bottle back to the store.  This reduces litter, because fewer bottles and cans are tossed outside.  And the ones that are, are collected by people and returned for the extra cash.  Unfortunately for you, Pennsylvania is not one of those states.

The other way is to separate out the paper, glass and plastic by type and color, and sell it by the ton.  Prices for these materials run between $10 and $100 per ton, but glass needs to separated by color, plastic by type and color, etc.

Unless you have large quantities of paper, plastic or glass to sell, it is difficult to make it worth your time to sell them.   Some metals, like copper or aluminum, can be worth more money.  But most consumers don't have a whole lot of copper or aluminum waste.

    Sorry.  Good luck.

  3. With gas heading for $4, you can't make money hauling stuff, the paper stopped short for a reason, other than deposits on cans, you make no money.

  4. paper wont bring in much cash but whatever you pay a deposit on can so gather those things up in and around your home ,park, roadside where ever and take them to the deposit centre. Also scrap metal like copper piping, aluminium cans, siding, soffetting old window frames can all be taken to a scrap metal dealer weighed and turned in for cash. Also old cast aluminium BBQ's.Our scouting group has been collecting this stuff for years and it pays for some of our camp outs.
