  1. the type of plastic in the cap is different than the bottle. Recycling companies can be selective in the types of plastics they recycle. Some recycling companies recycle more types of plastic than others. If you look on the bottom of ALL plastic containers, there will be a number inside a triangle, which designates the type of plastic it is. Most recycling companies recycle # 1 and # 2, but other types like # 6 & # 7 (typically thicker plastics) take more heat and energy to melt down during the recycling process. Therefore, some smaller recycling facilities (or in cities that aren't willing to pay higher taxes for good recycling programs), they won't take the thicker plastics, like the bottle caps or # 6 and # 7 plastics.

  2. There is lots you can do with the caps. Do not throw in trash or drains though. Drains can clog and trash ends up in landfills taking ages to decompose.  You can make fish mosaics, bottle cap jewelery, bottle cap earrings among other things.

  3. Recycling Services, Inc., which is located in Pottstown, PA, takes plastic bottle caps.  They also take plastics 1-7, styrofoam peanuts, styrofoam, glass, and metals.  They charge a fee for a carload.  Last time I checked it was $8.  Look them up online.
