Question:

Recycling textbooks?

I am a college student and I have some out of date textbooks that the university would not buy back. They also did not have any information on where to send them for recycling. I felt bad about throwing them away so I held on to them. How can I recycle out of date text books? Would a regular paper recycling plant accept them? One is a hard cover while the other is paperback...if that helps.

  1. Donate them to the homeless to use as pillows under the bridge.

  2. You could just bring then to see if they take it, but they shoud. It's paper!

    Good Luck!

  3. You could try an area Salvation Army or something like it.  If all else fails put them on http://www.half.com for an extremely low price.  Someone is bound to buy them, you get rid of the books, and maybe make some money off of the deal.

  4. See if the library will take them.  If not, donate them to Goodwill.

  5. hmmm... i think you could just put it in your recycling bin and see if they take it...after that, it's their problem, not yours :)

  6. you can drop off your used and outdated textbooks at a books recycling center in Glen Ellyn called SCARCE books rescue center. they donate it to people who wish to ship them to colleges in developing countries.

    check out its website.

It is located In Roosevelt Glen Corporate center,

Building 2, at corner of roosevelt Road and NicolWay,Glen Ellyn, 60137. open 9-4.30 pm M-F

  7. Also, check with the university if they can use them. Particularly see if there is a tutorial center or student assistance center that can use them. You might also check with your major department (ie Chemistry, Business, Accounting, etc.) to see if they can use them.

  8. you shoud look up about the hard cover. maybe rip the pages out and recycle that. and the paperback  you can recycle all together or donate it to your libary.

  9. Some teacher in another university may still require it or not care about using current editions. Sell it on a textbook site.

  10. If all else fails you can always try Freecycling them http://www.freecycle.org/ . You never know, there may be somebody in your community that would be interested in them.
