Recycling tips?

I'm going to start recycling and just in general clean up my neighborhood.

Do you have any useful information or tips I should know?

i want to ad 2 things to the "best answer". do a google search for a website called "freecycle". there should be a freecycle site in your area. freecycle is a website that encourages giving away recyclable items that are in good condition in order to keep the items out of our landfills (I became addicted to the site on my 1st visit.). also various metals such as tin, aluminum, and even wire (such as speaker wires, electrical wires, and cords off of anything electrical) are worth a lot of $$$ if taken to your local recycling scrap yards. call around for best prices. scrap yards will tell you what they will accept & how much they will pay per pound or per ton.

The best tip is do not annoy others with preaching about recycling.  Many times young people start out with the best intentions but drive everyone away with their this is the right way and the only way attitude.  When in fact some older people have been recycling for years.  Do your best and be happy and positive not pushy and bossy with others and they will learn from what they see and you will get more accomplished.  ANd be open minded and you just may learn a thing or two about recycling from the old timers.

Start with the first thing-Segregation of the goods.

Make different bins for plastics,paper,cans,cloth rags,etc.Then you could see if in the paper bin whether there are some books in good condition that can be donated to poor children,etc.

you could also find some good clothes that can be of great help to the poor.

Apart from recycling you could also make your neighborhood aware of the benefits of using reusable items such as- cloth napkins instead of paper napkins as that will help to reduce waste.
