Question:

Recycling waste....?

We are told that we have to do all the recycling we can to help our situation, so our councils give us bins for this and bins for that but my council does not give us anything to recycle boxes and to me most of the things we buy from food to the largest items comes in boxes...most of the waste from my house is boxes from packaging...Do we need all the boxes, why not package things in items which are easier to recycle. Or should our councils be made to give us another box for cardboard? I know some councils do.

  1. This is a bone of contention for me cos' when I lived in Devon you had the black bin for household waste and a green bag for everything recyclable, It works and it's fantastic.

Now I live in Yorkshire and we have the black bin and a green bin for garden waste and a small tub for bottles...and that is it.

Why can't the councils stick to the same rules, provide decent recycling facilities and regular pick-ups?

  2. do not recycle, it hurts the environment and speeds up global warming.

  3. I recycle everything I can, and so should everyone else, we've got to look after our planet.

  5. In Ontario, most municipalities recycle:

Paper: newspaper, fine paper, boxboard, corrugated, etc.

Metal: tinned steel cans, aluminum cans, foil, etc.

Plastics: 4 out of 6 common types.

    Glass: bottles, jars, etc.

  6. I can't really understand why some people have such a problem with recycling, to me it's a habit that doesn't take much thought or effort.

It is better have things delivered safely and unbroken in a cardboard box than a flimsy plastic bag.  Recycling cardboard and paper is easier, it's the plastic that is a major problem.

Our council have a paper/cardboard collection and we can have more than one collection box if needed.

If your council doesn't have a paper/cardboard collection, have you tried contacting them and suggesting one?

  7. Packaging keeps things safe in transit.  No good having goods that are broken arriving.  However, good stores take back the wrapping on delivery (Comet UK).  Smaller cardboard can be ripped up (good exercise) and placed in a bag and returned to the store manager.  If everyone started doing that in your area...  Dare to be different!

  8. Why dont you stop buying things with packaging? or give the packaging back to the place where you bought the product from?

I only get waste when i buy from supermarkets and high street shops, which fortunately is rarely.  Any card i get, is used as mulch on my garden.  Plastic food trays - very rare in our house - are used for planting seeds in and growing salads in.

Why dont you take responsibility for you own rubbish instead of expecting the council to sort it out for you.  If everyone had to deal with their own waste, we might become a more conscious society and actually start reducing our impact on this earth!!
