Question:

Recycling water bottles...little ring around the neck?

Okay, I know you're supposed to throw away the cap before you recycle the bottle. But what about the little ring that detaches from the cap? If that's still on the bottle, will they recycle it?

And what about laundry detergent bottles, with those big plastic caps? Do I need to take the caps off of those?

Thanks!

  1. It depends where you live, I've moved to several different cities and each have been different.  Call City Hall (or whatever it's called where you are)

  2. are you kidding    just recycle it they just put it with the reg garbage anyway

  3. Hello

In England, you can include your lids and loops to plastic collection as they will be separated at the plant.

Interestingly the reason you are asked to remove the lids is because when they are being crushed the lids can shoot off with the velocity of a bullet!

  4. Q. Why can't I recycle the lids?

    A. The lids to plastic bottles are made of different grades of plastic than the bottle itself. These grades of plastic are not recyclable in Washington, and mixing lids in with plastic bottles will diminish the value of bottle-grade plastic collected in that fashion.  the ring id made of the same material.

The caps are made of the same plastic. here are a few ideas for use of the bottles with the caps

Use detergent, fabric softener or shampoo bottles filled with USED motor oil for lubricating drive chains.

Fill glass cleaner bottles with soapy water and keep by the area in your house which has been infiltrated by ants. It is messier than traps, but safer than poison.

Cut the top part off of a liquid laundry detergent container. Use the main part as a pooper scooper and the top portion as the pusher. Empty, rinse and reuse.

  5. I always leave the caps on the laundry detergent bottles. I would remove the plastic ring from the water bottles as it is part of the cap. Just make sure and cut it into two pieces so an animal won't get it caught around it's neck, the same as the plastic rings around 6 packs of beer and soda.
