Recylcing Paper in a plastic bag?

ok i know that kind of sounds backwards, but i've been recycling paper more, envelopes, junk mail, office paper, shredded paper, and i've been putting them in paper grocery bags and then either taping them closed or stapling them shut.

I just didnt know if anyone knew if i bought some big clear trash bag type bags that are made of plastic if I could put paper stuff only in those, the grocery bags dont hold a large amt of stuff, and then just put that out for recycling. They take it to a sorting facility anyways.

  1. they make recycle plastic bags for recycling you can pick them up inexpensive normally at grocery store

  2. I'm not sure if this is true for everywhere, but in my hometown if you have a plastic bag with papers and stuff in it, the people won't take it. You have to put it in one f the recycling bins. The same holds true with the cans and bottles one.

  3. if you aren't totally sure, just contact your town or county to find out the best way that they want paper receycled.

  4. putting papers in plastic bags makes it harder for the recyclers.

paper and plastic are not the same.

the recovery on paper is very low, so it just does not pay to have workers dump you papers out.

it's cheaper for them to just send the whole lot to the dump.

i suppose you could put 'em in a paper bag.

and don't tape it, just don't dump it all over.

  5. I just use the green paper bag for the intended use(papers ect) but always find one is not enough, also have had 2 run after the bin men sometimes as it has disappeared!so maybe if we asked for more to be left then the grocery bags dont need to be tipped.plus saving on being charged for plastic bags.

  6. hi

i usually just put my papers in a cardboard box and havent had any trouble

  7. You could use cardboard boxes. Supermarkets over here usually have a pile of leftover boxes somewhere near the cash registers, they are free for anyone to grab.

  8. It labor time to take your papers out of the bag are greater than the value of the paper inside.  Since it is cheaper to just throw the whole bag in the landfill that is what will happen.  Get a plastic tub or use an open cardboard box.

  9. I tie mine into bundles with twine.

  10. The best thing to do is to ask your collector or call the company and ask what their policy is.  I usually get two medium size cardboard boxes. One I put in shredded papers(bills, personal letters, etc.) and the other I put in newspaper and larger sheets of paper.  Then I tie it up with cotton or jute twine. My recycling center doesn't have any problem with it.
