Recyling almuminum cans...?

Does it make a difference (do you get paid more or less) for recycling cans that have been crushed or crushed that have not been crushed? If it doesn't make a difference, I will go ahead and crush them all since I could fit more into a single bag.

  1. Crushing cans is OK if selling directly to a recycler...You are carrying less air and the recyclers are storing less air.

If returning cans for a refund (eg. Iowa) the cans must NOT be crushed...This is for the purpose of easy counting (cans must be sorted and placed in cardboard case flats at the redemption sites) to collect the refund.

  2. No difference in pay as they pay by weight (usually).  So crush away and save up until u have a hundred pounds.  Yes crushed takes up less space so make a can crusher to save ur hands and feet.

  3. you will get more money because it counts by weight and objects

  4. for weight only crush them....some states don't want them crushed if they have a bounty/deposite because they want to read the bar code.

  5. Nope no difference. They go by weight and a crushed can weighs the same as a can that has not been crushed. its harder to drag that heavy bag of cans from the car to the weigher but it does make you smile a little larger when they bring you your cash for just one bag and its way more than you thought it would be.

  6. It depends on where you live. Check with the place where you will be turning them in.
