We say "red, white, and blue" for the American flag.

But why do we say it in that order? Is there a specific reason?

  1. Wait.... red white and blue....RWB....GWB......George Bush.....9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB!

I agree, I just think it sounds the best.

  2. There's no reason for that order.. because there's no real reason for the colors themselves. It's most likely because they are the most visible at a great distance.

Another interesting 'side note' -- is the colors themselves have no official meaning or reason, although according to historians, in 1782 the Congress of the Confederation chose the same colors for their Great Seal and used this as the explanation:

    White for Purity

    Red for Valor and Hardiness

Blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice

That was the South's answer to the colors... again, the Continental Congress didn't have an official reason for the colors ... Rumor has it George Washington felt the stars were taken from the sky, the red from the British colors, and the white stripes signified the secession from Britain, but there's no proof that he actually ever said that.

  3. its due to the color pattern on the flag, the first stripe is red, second is white, and of course the union is blue. thirteen stripes for the first 13 colonies, and fifty stars for each of the governing states. i hope i have been of some help, take care.

  4. Probably comes from Britain with it's Red,White & Blue Union Jack flag

  5. I think its because it sounds more catchy then saying Blue, White, And Red or Red, Blue and White

It just has a better ring to it.

  6. I think Apollo is right...

Originally we did not call the flag by its colors this has just recently become synonymous with the U.S. flag or more so the United States of America as a whole.
