Red Bull's Mark Webber wants KERS issues to be resolved: Formula One News
Red Bull driver, Mark Webber has claimed that it will be very important for the team to resolve the issues with its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday,
May 8, 2011.
The Australian and his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, have faced numerous technical problems with their power boost system, in the opening three races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Webber stated, “Its (KERS) a key component in Formula 1 these days, mate, so it's completely obvious that we want to address it as soon as possible. McLaren have a huge amount of experience with Mercedes from 2009
and they're doing a good job of it, and that's not an excuse, it means that we have to work harder.”
He further added, “We have to work as cleverly as we can and as fast as we can. Fortunately, we now have a bit of a break, so it will be a clear focus for us in terms of durability and consistency and also understanding
the system.”
The veteran driver said that he had complete faith in his team and he was optimistic that the issue will be sorted out prior to the next race. However, he admitted that it wouldn’t be the easiest of jobs to get the
system working perfectly.
Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner was also confident that all systems on the car will be functioning properly during the Turkish GP. He claimed that the team has learned a lot after the first three races
of the season and things have moved in the positive direction.
The reigning champions will be bringing an upgrade to their KERS system ahead of the next race in order to continue their dominance on track. They were unmatched in the first race of the season in Australia, but Team
McLaren have made a lot of progress since then. The British team came closer in the Malaysian GP, but was unable to win the race. However, they continued to improve and won the next race, the Chinese Grand Prix.
Both the McLaren drivers were able to pass Vettel easily in the opening lap of the race, with the help of their superior KERS. Although the youngest ever Formula 1 champion bounced back in the race to lead, Lewis
Hamilton overtook him in the final few laps of the race easily.
On the other hand, Webber had to start the race from the 18th place on the grid due to the problem he encountered with his power boost system in qualifying.
The Australian had his car remade on four occasions during the Chinese race weekend. This didn’t help his chances in the race, but the 33-year-old impressed one and all with the sheer pace of his car and his driving
skills as he finished third overall.
This clearly indicated that a better qualifying position would have given him a chance to secure a victory.
