Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel and Mark Webber talk about the Malaysian Grand Prix
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel took his second pole of the season, making his career count to 12 race wins. The German highlighted that the start of the race was extremely crucial and he was glad that he made an efficient start. However, despite being quick
off the line, the current champion added that it wasn’t easy heading into turn 1 having to monitor his progress with the aid of his rear view mirrors.
Vettel argued that the Malaysian outing was a lot more competitive than the inaugural Australian Grand Prix 2 weeks ago. While both races involved keeping the lead and opening up some breathing space between the rest of the pack, Malaysia got harder as the
race went on. The hot weather really tested the Pirellis and frequent visits to the pit lane were integral for surviving the 56 laps – Having a well thought out pit strategy was vital for success.
Touching upon the final section, the Red Bull driver added that thanks to problems with Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren, it got a touch easy ‘staying’ in front. Overall, the youngster was extremely pleased with the result and felt that he couldn’t be happier at
this particular stage in his career. Concluding that the team needed to keep on pushing from here on in, but it was also important to enjoy the day seeing as a lot of work was put into getting the car ready to face the Malaysian tide.
Mark Webber on the other hand, had a tough day at the office. Reflecting upon his poor start and further struggling for the extent of the race due to problems with the car’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). The Australian added that he was trying his
best to make up for the slow start but they were able to counter on the straights as they were able to use the boost from the KERS while he had to contend on his car’s cornering to be remotely close to the car in front.
However, call it experience, or simply, a driver clearly overshadowed by his younger teammate, as Webber was able to take some consolation from the fact that at least he managed to be in amongst the points. After a hard fought 4th place, the Red
Bull driver looked forward to Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix.
Finishing in 1st and 4th, Red Bull was perhaps the greatest beneficiary at the end of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
