Red Bull Extreme Sailing clinches lead on Day 1 of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 9 in Singapore
Austria’s Red Bull Extreme Sailing team put up a superb sailing display on Singapore waters in the final showdown of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series. The Austrian team managed to grab on to the overall lead of the 10-boat Extreme 40 fleet with 45 points.
The Red Bull crew, comprising of skipper, Roman Hagara, Hans Peter Steinacher, Matt Adams and Craig Monk, is thrilled with their success in the series and they hope to continue their dominance on the second day as well.
The Extreme 40 fleet included some of the most experienced crews on board, such as Sébastien Col on Team Extreme, Max Sirena’s Luna Rossa, who are the leaderboard, France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild skippered by Pierre Pennec and Dean Barker’s Emirates
Team New Zealand.
The ninth and final act of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series will decide the eventual winner of the series. So far, Luna Rossa is leading the overall standings of the series.
Roman Hagara’s Red Bull Extreme Sailing was on fire from the very beginning of Day 1, as they sailed tremendously in the first two races. At the conclusion of Race 2, a monsoon-like rainy thunderstorm hit the fleet and the race committee had to suspend the
competition for a while. Racing re-started after the weather cooled down a bit.
Despite the thunderstorm, the forecast was quite ideal for a healthy sail. Although, the winds shifted to make sailing a bit difficult for some teams but overall, conditions were fine for a battle.
