After bagging both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ championship of the season, the official advisor of Red Bull Racing, Helmut Marko takes his turn of answering back all the taunts faced by the team throughout the season.
The first one to come under the tip of the nail is the McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh. Marko mocked him saying that he should resolve the problems of his own team first, before meddling in to the issues of others.
Marko, an important man for the team co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz, was genuinely rejoiced after seeing his team driver, Sebastian Vettel bagging the second championship for the team. The victory of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this Saturday has not only made the
German the youngest World Champion in the history of Formula One, but has also made the team proud for bagging both the championships in only their sixth season of the sport.
Right from the middle of the season Marko was quite open in showing favouritism towards Vettel. At several occasions he showed his inclination for the team driver, especially after the poor crash of Vettel and his team-mate Mark Webber at the Turkish Grand
Prix, where Vettel had to end his race pointless.
As the 23-year-old embraced victory in Abu Dhabi, Marko was able to take pride in his foresightedness, saying that he always knew Vettel was capable of this. He also did not take a lot of time to pay back the harsh comments of all the rival teams all through
the season like McLaren and Ferrari.
At the Belgian Grand Prix, the McLaren driver, Jenson Button had to retire from the race owing to a poor driving show of Vettel. After the incident the angry McLaren team boss called Vettel to be a ‘crash kid’. He further stated that the young lad is yet
not mature enough for Formula One and must drive for junior formulae.
However, it was the right time for Marko now to reply back, which he availed completely. He stroke back on McLaren for Lewis Hamilton's accidents in Italy and Singapore saying,
"Whitmarsh was trying to put a lot of pressure on us. But he should look to try and keep
Hamilton on the road instead. I think it would have been better for his team instead of looking at others and making comments which were not justified."
Moreover, Marko was also quick to hit back at Ferrari, another tough rival of the season saying that Fernando Alonso was fortunate to have entered the last race of the season, still being a title contender.
The Austrian said this for the fact that Alonso was granted two of his five wins by Vettel. Initially in Bahrain the German suffered from a spark plug issue on the track which handed his victory to Alonso, while Vettel had to settle at fourth place. While,
later at the Korean Grand Prix only at the last lap, Vettel's engine blew up while he was heading for a certain victory. And last but of course not the least, one cannot forget the victory that the Spaniard had in Germany after the other Ferrari driver, Felipe
Massa pulled over to let Alonso see the chequered flag.
Marko commented on all this saying, “We won in a very sporting way, never with any tactics. Both drivers had the same chances. Of course, this was a risky strategy because we could have lost the title to Alonso, who was always lucky. Whenever we had
problems he was the one benefiting, so now we are very happy. These two titles are more than I could have hoped for."
