Red Bull Racing Team director Adrian Newey says he is getting bored by front wing complaints
Red Bull Racing Team technical director Adrian Newey has said that he is getting bored of other teams complaining about the legality of the front wing of their car for the 2011 Formula 1 season, the RB7.
“To be honest, it's a bit boring. I’ve had a season of people moaning about our front wing last year. The tests were made more rigorous by the FIA, it's examined in great detail,” stated Newey.
The front wing of the RB7 looks more flexible than any other car’s wing on the grid but still it has been approved by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The teams had to face a similar situation in 2010 as they had to go through stringent tests later on in the season but this year, teams have admitted that they are trying to develop their own versions of their respective cars and devices.
Newey as a result believes that these complaints by other teams are now getting older and that he feels it is an attempt by “one team” to get the wing outlawed.
“I mean, frankly, I think it's an effort by one team in particular to get a change in regulations because the regulations are very clear in terms of what you can and cannot do with the front wing. The rest comes down to how you run the car. We choose to
run the car with quite a lot of rake; that means high at the rear, low at the front,” said Newey.
He added that teams like McLaren for instance have decided to take the opposite route as they are running their new car low-rake. Adrian stated that once a team runs its car low, this means that the front wing is automatically high which he claims is the
case with McLaren this year.
Other than that, Newey finds McLaren’s sudden improvement in terms of performance annoying as well as they have copied Red Bull’s exhaust system. However, he added that this would only put more challenge Red Bull Racing Team to improve its car further which
is a good thing for his team.
