Red Bull Racing Team hoping to improve reliability of KERS before Turkish GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing Team has said that they are going to improve the reliability of their Kinetic Energy Recovery System before heading for the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix.
The team has been struggling to get the best out of its KERS but so far, they have been unable to do so as compared to their rivals. Mark Webber’s system failed at the start of the second race of the 2011 Formula 1 season which took place in Malaysia and
it was not working during the Chinese Grand Prix either.
The team used KERS for the first time at the Chinese Grand Prix and even the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel is yet to test his device at its best.
After losing to McLaren at the Chinese GP, Red Bull Racing Team have realised that KERS is vital for them in the ongoing 2011 season. They are hoping to make some improvements in order to regain the lead in terms of pace over McLaren and the rest of the
teams.
“We had some trouble in the race and for the majority of the race, unfortunately, we had to do without KERS, so the first stint was fine but then we lost it fairly early after that. Yes, it's a big hit, obviously,” said Vettel.
Mark Webber on the other hand stated that the failure of this device is not just costly in terms of lap time, but it also affects the team’s mood in the garage before a race.
“It's not only a performance thing but it's also incredibly disrupting in the garage for… my car was rebuilt about four times this weekend. It makes it so much harder for them in terms of making mistakes, when you open a car up and put it back together all
the time, it's not easy,” said Webber.
As a result, owner Christian Horner announced that Red Bull Racing Team are going to prioritise their reliability system before heading for the Turkish Grand Prix which is expected to take place in three weeks time.
“We've got three weeks to work pretty hard on it between now and Turkey, to make sure we have it on every lap of the grand prix,” said Horner.
However, Webber believes that KERS is going to be very important for Red Bull Racing Team in order to keep their lead this season. Let’s see if they are able to make it work properly before the Turkish Grand Prix.
