Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber denied rumours that his team is running an “overweighed” car
Recent rumours revealed that Red Bull Racing Team are running an overweight car in order to conceal the advantage they have over their rivals for the 2011 Formula 1 season, but Mark Webber recently ruled out these rumours.
The new Red Bull car “RB7” finished at the top of the timesheets on four occasions during the 2011 Formula 1 pre-season test sessions up until now including their triumph at the first day of the final pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona
recently.
This past Tuesday, Mark Webber scored the fastest time of the first day of the final pre-season test session of the 2011 Formula 1 season but claims that the team is not trying to “deceive” its rivals about their new car’s pace in anyway.
“Certainly not. I'd love to be able to say that. There's not enough time to play games with yourself let alone other people. There's a lot of people on a similar pace, don't worry about that,” Mark answered when asked whether his team is “sandbagging” its
rivals or not.
Nevertheless, he believes that most of the people are expecting that Red Bull Racing Team is going to be the fastest team of the 2011 Formula 1 season on the basis of last year’s performance rather than the pre-season test sessions of this year.
“I don't think there is a huge amount of evidence to go on from the previous eight weeks to be honest. Today we saw everyone at a similar pace and Ferrari aren't here. McLaren aren't hanging around either. We need to go racing [to find out],” he said.
This adds another driver to the list of people who stated that the results of the pre-season test sessions never give a clear picture of what the upcoming season has in store for its audience.
However, unlike McLaren, Mark Webber believes that Red Bull Racing Team’s new car is now ready to race at the season opening race that is expected to take place in Australia on the 27th of March. The team has to get rid of just a couple of minor
errors though.
He stated that there is always room for improvement but he claims that this is the point when the team should decide to hit the tracks for racing now and learn their strengths and weaknesses in the process.
The teams usually get a better view of their car after applying all the upgrades after their pre-season testing during the first couple of races of the season, mainly after running in a racing environment when they are pushing their respective cars to the
limit.
