Red Bull Racing achieve new heights at Khardung-La pass – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing have achieved yet another milestone in their glorious career by scaling the world’s highest developed road on the Khardung-La pass in India.
While Sebastian Vettel was savouring his second consecutive title in Japan, their demo car achieved a new feat.
The car was being driven by Neel Jani, who is a Swiss driver with an Indian origin. The show car is a reflection of the RB1, and completed the uphill task while passing through some famous landmarks like the Thiksey Monastery and then making a stop at the Shanti Stupa. The elevation of the rout is an estimated 8,830 feet while the air is quite thin at such a height and the terrain is much rougher than the smooth circuits in comparison of which the Formula 1 cars are used to.
The achievement was more symbolic of some fantastic engineering.
“Of all the places I've driven around the world, Khardung La has got to be the most humbling,” Jani said. “The Himalayas are as imposing as anything in the world and to become a part of history here will be a cherished memory.”
The head of Red Bull Racing branding Anthony Ward also spoke about the unique achievement and said, “It is a testament to the engineering crew of Red Bull Racing that we have been able to get a Formula One car running from 11,000 feet, all the way up to the 18,380 feet mark. Logistically too, this project demonstrates Red Bull Racing's commitment to continually pushing boundaries.”
Red Bull will be considered hot favourites at the Indian Grand Prix in 2012 at the newly developed and still under construction Buddh International Circuit. Their star driver Sebastian Vettel is showing no signs of letting go of his dominance on the circuit as he claimed the RB7 Red Bull’s 2011 car to be less dominant over the RB6, which just goes to show how determined and focused he is.
They still have four more races in this season, and the constructors’ championship is still on. Red Bull are ahead in the standings and may as well turn out to be twin winners.
