Red Bull Racing aim to strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that they are aiming to strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10, after their driver, Sebastian Vettel lost the race in the
last lap during the preceding year.
The two-time world champion maintained the lead throughout the race in Montreal last year. However, he ran wide on the dry line and was overtaken by Jenson Button of McLaren in the final lap who took the victory in the end.
Moreover, it will be interesting to mention that the defending championships have not been able to win a race in Canada. Nevertheless, Horner said that they are hopefully looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming race.
“We love coming to Montreal,” he said. “The city comes alive. It's always a great atmosphere. Even if circuit is not the most exciting of the season, it has always produced exciting racing. This is one of the only races that Red Bull has never won, even
though we came very close last year. It would be wonderful to come back and rectify situation.”
Red Bull are currently leading the constructors’ championship with 146 points and they are 38 points ahead of their main rival, McLaren. On the other hand, their drivers, Vettel and Mark Webber are just 3 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso
of Ferrari.
Even though, they have won two grands prix in the season so far but Horner said that nothing can be predicted about the race ahead as there have been six different winners in the first six races.
Nonetheless, he said that they have been trying their best to make the necessary advancements and the significant preparations in order to improve the pace of their car for the approaching races so as to defend their championship title.
He added, “In Montreal, power is crucial. It's complete opposite of Monaco. Who knows if we'll be competitive, but we'll be in attack mode. Our people enjoyed winning but we want more. Motivation at Red Bull has never been higher.”
