Red Bull Racing and Sebastian Vettel nominated for 2013 Laureus World Sports Awards – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing and their driver, Sebastian Vettel have been included in the nominations for the 2013 Laureus World Sports Awards.
Former Formula 1 driver, Emerson Fittipaldi and Edwin Moses who is the chairman of Laureus World Sports Academy, have recently revealed the nominations for the awards which will be held on March 31, 2013.
Red Bull Racing have been nominated for the Laureus World Team of the Year after claiming their third successive world constructors’ championship title in the 2012 F1 season. Moreover, they are listed against the US Miami Heat Basketball team, Spain’s Men’s
Football Team, the European Ryder Cup Team, China’s Olympic Table Tennis Team and the United States’ Men’s Basketball Team.
On the other hand, the veteran German driver who has won his third consecutive world drivers’ championship title in this season has been tabled against Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, Lionel Messi, Michael Phelps and Bradley Wiggins.
It will be important to mention that Former Williams and Lotus F1 driver Alex Zanardi, who won two gold medals and one silver medal in the London Paralympics Games, has also been nominated in Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year in the category of Disabled.
“I always feel in an Olympic year that you are likely to see a strong group of potential Nominees and this year is certainly a great example of that,” said Laureus World Sports Academy chairman Edwin Moses.
“The Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award particularly is going to be one of the closest contests ever when you look at the wonderful collection of names we have, with the likes of Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps and newcomers like Mo Farah and Bradley Wiggins.
But the list goes on, in every category. This is really the crème de la crème of sport,” he added.
Vettel and Red Bull were also nominated in the Laureus World Sports Awards during the last two years, but they couldn’t win. Nonetheless, their hopes are very high this time and it will be exciting to see whether they will be able to win it or not as the
competition is very tough.
