Red Bull Racing are most likely to dominate again in 2013 – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing have successfully won their third consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ championship titles in the 2012 Formula 1 season and they are surely the most favourite team for the next year as well.
The Milton Keynes based squad faced many difficulties during the start of this season. They failed to create thorough understanding about their car’s design during the pre-season testing programme due to which their star driver, Sebastian Vettel could not
attain competitive results during the opening few races.
On the other hand, Vettel’s teammate, Mark Webber performed with admirable consistency during the start of the season and stood amongst one of the most competent drivers. Whereas, despite dominating in the previous year with 11 grands prix victories, the
veteran German driver lacked competitiveness because of some technical issues in his car.
Nevertheless, the chief technical officer of Red Bull, Adrian Newey again proved his tremendous potential and efficiently created the fastest car for the 25-year-old towards the end of the year. Eventually, Vettel strike back really well during the last
few races and won his third successive drivers’ championship title.
It will be important to mention that the German had a very intense competition with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who fought remarkably well until the end of the season.
Furthermore, everything went against the defending champion in the last race of the season held at Interlagos in Brazil as he had a clash with Bruno Senna of Williams just in the first lap because of which his exhaust was damaged.
Nonetheless, he kept on fighting hard and finally came out triumphant in the end as he managed to secure 6th place finish in the season finale and won the title by just 3 points from the Spaniard.
After the Brazilian GP, a dispute started over Vettel’s pass which according to a video clip was during the yellow flag because the warning lights were still blinking in his cockpit. Therefore, the Scarlet team took the issue to the FIA for the necessary
clarification.
In return, the Federation declared the pass completely legal and Ferrari stated that they consider the matter closed. Contrarily, Red Bull didn’t bother much and expressed that they are not concerned with the appeal of the Italian team as they have already
won the championship.
Afterwards, Horner said that although they have accomplished so much in a very little time on which they feel proud. However, he insisted that they cannot take any rest as they have to make the necessary developments for the coming year in order to attain
promising results right from the start to defend their championship title.
“We will apply the lessons we have learned in each of the last three years, [as well as] the lessons we've learned this year, and look to apply them for next year,” Horner said.
In addition, he said that the competition is going to be tougher in the next season. Therefore, they must make the substantial preparations during the winter testing to compete well with their rivals in the coming year.
“We're up against some formidable opponents, they won't be sleeping over the winter and we will have to improve. We have to further the car and the team in order to maintain the kind of performances we've achieved not just this year but over the last three
years,” he said.
“But Formula 1 doesn’t stand still and we have to evolve, we have to improve,” he added.
