Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner believes Mark Webber will be better in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing principal Christian Horner believes that Mark Webber will come out much stronger in 2012 than the Aussie did in 2011.
Webber played second fiddle to Sebastian Vettel throughout the 2011 season. After a strong showing in the 2010 season where he narrowly missed the chance to be the world champion after an injury caused him to underperform and Vettel took the opportunity
to claim his first world title.
The 2011 season had Vettel’s name written all over it, with 11 wins in the season. It was only in the last race of the season that the Aussie got the opportunity to claim the first Grand Prix win of the 2011 season. The win however came after Vettel had
encountered a gearbox problem and was told by the team to slow down in order to play it safe.
“It's very difficult going up against a driver of Sebastian's calibre, being matched and measured against somebody of his standard,” said Horner at the Autosport International Show. “Mark had a difficult start to the year but he adapted and he worked hard
at it and he worked hard to understand the tyres in particular. And his performances grew and grew throughout the year and it was great to see him win that final race in Brazil.”
“He has gone away and trained hard through the winter and his enthusiasm has rejuvenated and I think 2012 could be a very strong year for Mark,” Horner added.
While Horner believes that Webber will make a strong appearance in the 2012 season, he was also in praise of the duo and said that both the drivers are one of the best combinations in Formula 1 and he is certain that they will bring forth a strong showing
for Red Bull in the upcoming season as well.
It will be interesting to see how Red Bull performs in the 2012 season as the latest edition of their car the RB8 is going to be an evolution of the RB7 minus the off-throttle blown diffuser because of the FIA regulation changes. This means Red Bull might
not fancy the same advantage it did in the previous two seasons.
