Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner says Sebastian Vettel always surprises him – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel always surprises him.
Vettel has been giving top notch performances since the beginning of the season with 6 victories and 7 pole positions from 8 races.
Red Bull have been dominating the 2011 Formula 1 season since it began mainly because of Vettel’s outstanding performances. His teammate Mark Webber on the other hand has been struggling to perform but at this past weekend’s European Grand Prix, the team
scored a double podium which has now clarified that the ban on engine mapping did not affect their performance much.
“He was keen to have a perfect weekend in Valencia, and he did just that. He bounced back. But then he never ceases to surprise us because at one point we hadn't told him we had put the prime (harder) tyres on Mark's car because we didn't want him to push
any harder,” said Horner.
Vettel on the other hand was already aware of the fact that Webber was running on the harder tyres as a result of which he asked his team about the lap times his teammate was scoring at that point of the race.
“We all looked at ourselves and thought 'Who told him?' Of course, he was watching the big TV screen as he was going round, and he's the capacity to take that in. So he's always thinking, which is one of his major strengths,” added the team boss.
The current championship leader won the European Grand Prix by a margin of 10 seconds over Fernando Alonso who finished in 2nd place. It was a very easy and comfortable race for the young German as he did not face any major issue throughout the
race.
As a result of his perfection, the team has started calling him a perfectionist as he has just lost 14 points up until now in the 2011 Formula 1 season as he finished in 2nd place on just 2 occasions while the rest of the races were comfortably
won by him.
