Red Bull Racing concerned about reliability issues ahead of the Brazilian GP – Formula 1 news
Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer for Red Bull Racing, has stated that the team is concerned about reliability issues ahead of the crucial Brazilian Grand Prix this week.
The concern has increased with Mark Webber’s alternator failure during the United States GP.
“Reliability is a concern, it's unfortunately our third alternator failure this year which is a ticking time bomb,” he told Sky Sports F1. “You never know when that one is going to strike. Renault haven't managed to find a proper solution to that one so
that's a continual worry in the back of our minds as is the rest of the reliability. The cars are very complicated and keeping them going around is anything but guaranteed.”
Webber stated that the alternator failure had become the reason for him to lose the third position he had in the race after completing seventeen laps. He said he lost his batteries, the KERS, and the gearbox sync as well. He admitted that it was impossible
to complete the race after that and was disappointing that he lost the third place. He confessed that the concerns have definitely increased now.
The last two alternator failures occurred during the European and the Italian Grands Prix. Both times it was ace driver Sebastian Vettel who became the victim. He had to retire in Europe while completed the race at last standing in Italy.
Vettel said that it was not good news at all since the drivers’ title is on the line and if he suffers another retirement; his chances will become bleak depending on the position of Ferrari rival Fernando Alonso. He insisted that the team should prepare
accordingly.
Remi Taffin, the head of trackside operations for Renault who provide the engines for Red Bull has suggested that the team use the new specification alternator which is being used by other F1 teams as well. He told that the new alternator has passed all
the tests.
Brazilian GP will be the last race this season and will decide the 2012 F1 champion. Vettel will start the race with a thirteen point lead over Alonso.
