Red Bull Racing consider Mercedes a major rival in the championship fight – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that Mercedes are undoubtedly one of their major rivals in this year’s championship fight and they must perform with consistency in the season ahead to defend their title.
Lewis Hamilton of the Brackley based team claimed an incredible victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix after securing the pole position. He delivered an amazing performance in hot conditions at the Hungaroring and managed his tyres really well as compared to
his rivals.
After seeing such a great showing by the Silver Arrows in the preceding race, Horner has stated that they cannot rule out Mercedes from the title fight and advised his team to keep on working hard in order to score competitive points with consistency in
the forthcoming races to make their mark stronger in the championship.
“I think we are set for a really intense second half of the year,” Horner said. “But we just have to maintain our consistency no matter who the opponent is.”
Besides, he admired the performance of the British driver who showed some remarkable moves to overtake Jenson Button of McLaren and Mark Webber of Red Bull.
Although, the 39-year-old stated that their driver, Sebastian Vettel, could not make the most out of his qualifying position in the race because of his front wing damage, he is feeling contented as the German managed to secure third podium finish in the
end.
“I think Lewis did a great job, drove very well, everything fell perfectly for them. He made two decisive moves, one on Jenson and one on Mark at crucial points of the race and I think after Sebastian suffered his front wing damage he was able to control
race quite comfortably,” he said.
“But Mercedes have a very strong car, they have taken pole position at six or seven races and have won three races now,” he added.
At present, the Milton Keynes based squad are leading the constructors’ as well as the drivers’ championship with strong lead over their main rivals. It will be thrilling to see how they perform in the season ahead and whether they will be able to defend
their title or not.
