Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber aiming for 2012 world championship – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing is aiming for the 2012 world championship following rumours that 2010 was the last chance to win the title which he openly denied.
The Australian has not had a very good outing in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season even thought his teammate Sebastian Vettel is currently just a point away from winning the title with his outstanding performances during this season’s races.
Webber has not been able to win a single race in the current season so far, and sits at fourth position with 182 points in the drivers’ championship.
For now, winning a race or two would not be a bad end to the season for Webber. For that, he really needs to concentrate more on his race starts, an area where this 35-year-old driver has not been very strong.
Webber said, “No question about it, though, winning is a beautiful feeling. It's always satisfying to put a good weekend together, knowing you have done a better job than anyone else. That's what we'll keep striving for.”
He wants to put up a great show before the 2011 finale race and is looking for short-term gains as opposed to long-term gains.
He wants to pull off his best performance in the five races that remain and try his best to make it to the first place on the podium in as many races as he possibly can so that he can enter the next season with renewed confidence and high spirits.
Commenting on their 2011 car, Webber said, “This year the car has been very different, and Sebastian has done a phenomenal job. Next year we have some changes coming - nothing massive - but there's some changes, and I have to go into it with positive thoughts.
It won't be pretty for all of us if it's the same as this year, but we have to be optimistic. That's all of our goals.”
Let’s see how Webber performs in the upcoming 2011 Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit.
The first practice session has already taken place, and the race is set to take place on Sunday, October 9, 2011.
