Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber confident of good showing at Indian GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing Mark Webber has said that he feels confident ahead of Indian Grand Prix race as he has been able to qualify in third place.
Webber was only 0.034 seconds slower than Lewis Hamilton fighting for a second place. Still Webber will be finishing second though as Hamilton was penalised three-grid places for ignoring the yellow flags during FP1.
Webber also mentioned that he was pleased with the performance of his tyres. Pirelli had been conservative to bring in soft and hard compound tyres to India, because of no prior knowledge of how the track will behave. However, so far the tyres have performed
quite well, and drivers have been quite happy with the pace they are getting with the tyres.
“Tricky to work out the right strategy for qualifying, obviously the tyres weren't easy for one timed lap so we had to work out how we were going to do the strategy. Obviously lots of teams tried different styles to get the best lap time out of the car,”
Webber said.
“First sector was tricky to get right on one timed (lap). So I could have done better in the first sector on my first lap, or my only run basically because then I got yellow flags obviously with Felipe so couldn't do my second lap,” he further added.
Webber will be trying hard to get a win so that he can close the gap between him and Jenson Button who is 13 points ahead of Webber in the drivers’ championship.
Red Bull has shown its focus is on Webber getting the 2nd position in the drivers’ standings and Vettel has expressed that he will help out as much as he can for the better of the team, even if it means to concede a win.
Whether Vettel does concede a win remains to be seen, as it must be in his might that he can achieve Schumacher’s record 13 wins in a season if can score wins in both the remaining races of the season.
The first ever Indian Grand Prix is going to begin on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the newly developed Buddh International Circuit.
