Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber excited about Singapore GP challenge – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber said that he is excited about the challenges that lay ahead of him at the Singapore Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend, September 23 – 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Expressing the views in his BBC column, Webber wrote, “This weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix is one of the season’s showcase events – and probably the toughest of all for drivers. So many things add up to make it that way and I love the challenge and endurance
aspect of the race.”
Webber claimed that he, “loves the challenge and endurance aspect” of the Singapore Grand Prix.
The night race will take place on a track that is known to be bumpy with a lot of corners. The race time is also one of the longest amongst all other circuits at 2 hours.
McLaren’s Jenson Button recently proposed that the race was going to be too tough and challenging for drivers and demanded that the race distance should be shortened. Webber, however, thinks the opposite. It is the challenge that is more appealing to him
and he is very confident about facing it.
According to Webber, the thing to worry about the most at Singapore should be its soaring temperatures and unbearable humidity which means the teams will have to come up with a counter strategy well ahead of time.
The fact that it is going to be a tough track is going to make the race all the more exciting.
While speaking of the challenges that the Marina Bay Street Circuit poses, he added, “Finally, there's the fact that, by and large, we stay on European time, even though Singapore is six or seven hours ahead of that... It's pretty surreal but it's all worth
it - it's a very rewarding grand prix and the tough environment helps makes it that way.”
The 35-year-old Australian currently sits at 4th position with 167 points on the 2011 drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how well Mark Webber performs for his team during the weekend’s race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
