Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber expecting a close battle at 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is expecting a close battle between his team, Ferrari and McLaren at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“It will be tight again, all three teams have shown form. McLaren and Ferrari aren't hanging around and qualifying has tightened up a bit. Whether it's three [teams fighting] remains to be seen but two could definitely challenge for the victory,” he said.
RBR’s performance has been deteriorating as both of their rivals have been outperforming them since the past two races. The British Grand Prix was won by Fernando Alonso while the German Grand Prix was won by Lewis Hamilton who was followed by Alonso.
In 3rd place, it was Mark Webber who finished ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this season.
Vettel on the other hand finished off the podium for the first time this season but since he currently has a massive lead in the drivers’ standings, his championship run has not been dented much.
Since McLaren and Ferrari have been improving quite noticeably, it seems that RBR are falling behind as their race pace is not up to the mark. Webber as a result urged his team to improve its race pace rather than its qualifying pace before adding that the
team should not take any unnecessary risks.
“There are no knee-jerk reactions. We don't start planning more stuff faster than we would have done. We were a little bit off the pace in the Nurburgring, we need to go quicker again. The most important thing is to react in a positive and constructive way,”
he added.
McLaren and Ferrari have even started getting very close to the pace of the RB7 in terms of qualifying as a result of which the upcoming race is going to be a real threat for the team.
The 2011 Formula 1 season might get quite interesting if Sebastian Vettel retires out of at least two of the remaining races this year after which, the championship would be anyone’s game.
