Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber praises Mugello circuit – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has praised the Mugello circuit at the end of the first day of the three-day in-season test while he admired the crowd which was present there.
“I have to say this is a fantastic track. It's very challenging for the driver and very quick. I don't know if we'll ever race here in the future, you never know, but to see the crowd here today was very special. A lot of people came to watch and that's
great,” said Webber.
The Australian driver set the second best time of 1 minute and 23.648 seconds and followed the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. However, he could only cover 24 laps because of the rainstorm and remained in the garage during the entire afternoon session.
In addition, he said that this test is very important for the team while he said that he is looking forward to the remaining days of the test in order to gather the crucial information about RB8 to be used to make the substantial developments for 2012 Spanish
Grand Prix.
Moreover, he is currently on the third place in the drivers’ standing with 48 points and has shown consistent performances during all the first four races of the season. Besides, he has been performing quite convincingly in the qualifying of the races until
now.
On the other hand, Webber’s teammate, Sebastian Vettel is leading the drivers’ championship with 53 points. The two-time world champion secured second podium finish in the season opener.
However, he struggled in the second race and could not score even a single point due to his collision with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT. Furthermore, in the third race, he came 5th after setting off from 11th place in the grid.
Nevertheless, he claimed his first victory of the season after securing pole in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
With the pair of talented drivers, the defending champions are presently at the top of constructors’ championship with 101 points. Moreover, they are aiming to make the significant preparations and the essential preparations so as to enhance their pace in
the upcoming season.
