Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber prepares for his final leg surgery – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is currently preparing himself for his final leg surgery, which was broken while he was competing in his annual Tasmania Challenge back in 2008.
Webber had a severe mountain bike accident four years ago in which his leg was broken and he underwent some major surgery. However, he has recently said that he is planning to undergo the last operation in which the remaining metal support will be removed
from his leg.
“I'm getting some surgery on the leg I broke in a mountain bike accident at the end of 2008,” Webber explained to BBC Sport. “It has been planned for ages and I am getting the last bit of metal support taken out of it while I have the chance.”
It will be important to mention that he has been a real fighter and kept on delivering his best even after the accident. Moreover, he scored his maiden win in the 2009 Formula 1 season.
The Australian driver has been considered as one of the most competent drivers in the sport. Even though, he has been outperformed by his teammate, Sebastian Vettel who has claimed his third successive world championship title in this season, nevertheless,
he has performed convincingly well and has secured sixth place finish in the drivers’ championship.
Furthermore, he stood ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and behind McLaren pair of drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
In addition, he had been linked with Ferrari for the next season according to many speculations this year, but he completely discharged all the rumours and successfully extended his contract for one more year with his present team.
Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner has admired the performance of the Aussie in this season. Besides, he has also called the 36-year-old a great team player who has always supported his team.
However, Webber has said that he is going to fight his own battle in the next season and will not play a supporting role in his team.
Let’s see how he performs in the next season after his complete recovery from the injury.
