Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber puzzled by variation in his car pace – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team driver Mark Webber has said that he still cannot understand the reasons for his current fluctuation in pace completely.
In addition, Webber said that he does have a good chance of winning the British Grand Prix this weekend as he is currently in form.
“I've not a clue what's changed. I don't think I did a huge amount different in Valencia, we haven't changed the car too much. It was nice to have him [Vettel] in view for the whole race basically - he could never really break us that well. It was nice to
be there in case any hiccups happened for him,” he said.
He added that he has not changed his approach this season either and that he is still trying his best to improve his performance even more.
The Aussie claims that the European Grand Prix was his best performance of the 2011 season after he finished in 3rd place even though he started from 2nd place on the grid.
However, one cannot blame Mark for this result as he stayed behind his teammate and race winner Sebastian Vettel until the 42nd lap of the race but unfortunately due to a strategic error, lost a lot of ground and the gearbox problem further deteriorated
his pace.
Despite this unlucky finish, Webber still has his hopes high for the upcoming British Grand Prix and is hoping for the best this weekend.
“I hope the coin is laying the same way in Silverstone and we can certainly be up there challenging for victory. I think I have a very good chance to challenge for the victory in Britain and that's what I want to try and do,” said the Australian driver.
Other than that, Webber also stated that it is getting quite difficult for him to focus on one thing as he does not know the reason for his lack of pace this season. He claims that he has just been trying as hard as he can to improve his performance and
at some venues, trying just hard has worked for him.
