Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber says RB8 still has limitations – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has claimed that they still don’t know whether they have a winning car for the forthcoming 2012 F1 season starting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this weekend after he admitted that the team has limitations.
Red Bull had a struggling last day of the final test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona where the double world champion, Sebastian Vettel only completed 23 laps and stayed last on the timesheet due to some issues in the new car RB8.
Nonetheless, the defending world champions had been considered as the front-runner after the pre-season testing and the veteran German driver had remained the outright favourite for the upcoming season.
Webber said it would be quite intriguing to see how the season show up as every team including themselves had been planning to claim the championship title.
“Performance-wise, we're a team aiming to win, and we know it's a very challenging season ahead against a lot of good, ambitious teams,” Webber wrote in his BBC column. “Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren all need to win. It's going to be fascinating how it turns
out.”
Furthermore, he said that they had really worked hard as a team during the past couple of years in order to gain the position at which they are at present. However, he said that it was crucial for them to maintain the performance as it did not take much
to go down.
“It's been incredibly rewarding for the team to be at the level we have been for the last two years, but it doesn't take much to fall off. We work to fine margins in F1, and you might not be as comfortable as you were in the past,” he said.
Besides, Webber was, to a certain extent, adamant that they did not know well if they would be able to win at the races after working out on their limitations during the pre-season tests held at Jerez and Barcelona circuits.
Nevertheless, he said that every team had its strengths and weaknesses, so did they while he said that they would be competent enough to remain in the eyes of the spectators during the season ahead.
