Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber says team is ‘not hiding anything’ – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber says that the team is not hiding the pace of the car RB8 during the Formula 1 pre-season testing but only implementing the normal testing programme.
Red Bull had been quicker over the long runs during the first two pre-season tests. Since the team had considerably the faster car during the start of 2011, the spectators of F1 believed that there was a lot more to come from Red Bull which they would witness
in the pre-season test before the upcoming 2012 F1 season starting from March 18, 2012 at Melbourne, Australia.
Furthermore, he said that the team was going in the right direction after the first day of the last test at Barcelona when he completed 102 laps and set the fourth fastest lap time. However, Webber insisted that the team is neither hiding anything nor clutching
back the performance after Jenson Button of McLaren set the fastest lap which Romain Grosjean of Lotus over took later towards the end of testing session during the day.
“We're not hiding ... it's a normal test programme for us,” Webber said. “We're not hiding anything. We're here to do our job and we don't have many days to do things. So we need to get the most out of the car and let's hope there's no different surprises
in Melbourne.”
Furthermore, he stated that in order to make the essential preparations for the forthcoming season the team need ‘crucial data’ about the car, therefore the remaining time for the testing the car is very crucial for the team to make good progress.
However, Webber said that the performance of the car was reasonably reliable during the test but there are certain areas which still need attention of the team for improvements to be made before the season opener at Melbourne.
“We have more boxes to tick, for sure, no question about it. We have some more data to gather; more crucial data to gather and that's important before we go racing because obviously a race weekend is a little bit harder to capture that data,” said Webber.
