Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber says ‘top team or nothing’ for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has declared that he will leave Formula 1 if he cannot find seat with a top team for 2013.
Webber is the only driver who currently has no contract beyond this upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season which is quite a staggering state for the 35 years old Australian driver.
Furthermore, it has been speculated that Red Bull’s team advisor, Dr Helmut Marko has expressed to replace Webber with Mark Daniel Ricciardo or Jean-Eric Vergne for 2013. However, the rumours have also been set off that Felipe Massa at Ferrari could be replaced
with Webber.
“The only possibility is if Massa decides to leave Ferrari, or Ferrari decides to leave Massa. There could maybe be an opening there,” according to 1980 world champion Alan Jones.
Conversely, the opportunities for Webber seem to be quite limited if both Red Bull and Ferrari fail to take him in the team.
Webber has expressed that he will only prefer to be with a competitive team in future and stated that he will prefer to better leave F1 than to think about falling for a midfield team just for the sake of being in the world of sport.
“I’d need something competitive,” Webber told the Australian news agency AAP on Tuesday.
“It’s pretty clear that I’ve earned my stripes on the way through so I won’t be doing that on the other side — going the other way,” said Webber.
Moreover, Webber stated that he had no fears at all about any issues despite being outperformed by the teammate Sebastian Vettel during the last season who won 11 races with his second consecutive world drivers’ championship while Webber could only be able
to win the ending round of the season in Brazil.
The veteran Australian driver expressed that it is always good to be a part of something which is competitive and performance oriented.
“Being competitive, being at the front, is certainly a big, big factor of me staying very hungry and motivated,” he added.
Furthermore, it has been reported on the official website of F1 and confirmed by Webber later that he has lost weight ahead of the forthcoming season.
“I am no light version — I’ve just lost some kilos, that’s all,” he confirmed.
