Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber singles out McLaren threat – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has singled out its main contender, McLaren at the end of second Formula 1 pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
Red Bull’s two top rivals, Ferrari and McLaren had struggled with the pace of the cars and found stuck in the midfield during the first pre-season test held at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
Moreover, after the first test, Mark said that Ferrari and McLaren would prove out to be the nearest opponents of Red Bull. However, McLaren’s driver Jenson Button covered 30 more laps on the final day of the second test and he remained half a second faster
than Mark.
After being agreed that McLaren was the strongest rival of Red Bull in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season, Mark expressed that nothing could be assessed by the test too soon because the situation would be quite different when the first race of the forthcoming
season would start.
“I think McLaren look pretty well prepared, but we've seen it in the past where people aren't very organised in the winter then arrive at the first race extremely organised,” Webber said. “So we're focusing on ourselves, we have a lot of work to do in Milton
Keynes in the next five or six days to prepare the car for the next test, and then again a huge workload ready for Melbourne. Obviously the test has been put back one day, so that makes Melbourne a bit tighter but in the end we have gathered a lot of information
in the last two tests.”
Mark said that the team could not complete a larger number of laps during the test but the information which was gathered from the testing sessions proved out to be very significant for the team to improve its performance for the forthcoming season.
Moreover, Mark said that he was quite positive after the test and was eagerly looking forward to the first race in Melbourne because the race would be the most important thing to start with, after which the guessing of who was slow and who was fast during
the test would stop.
