Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber wants to stay in Formula 1 beyond 2013 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he wants to stay in the sport beyond the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Webber’s contract with Red Bull was going to be ended at the conclusion of this season. However, he has recently signed a new deal with his team for the next season and has expressed that he intends to carry on his career in F1 even after the expiry of his
new agreement.
It will be important to note that he has performed amazingly well in the season so far and has been the most consistent driver behind the wheel of his car RB8. He secured fourth place finish in the first four races. Moreover, he emerged as the second driver
to score two race wins after claiming victories in Monaco and British grands prix.
At present, he is at second place in the drivers’ standings with 116 points and is 13 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Besides, he is surprisingly 16 points ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel who completely dominated during
the last two seasons.
In addition, he said that he is positively looking forward to continue his career as he thinks he is in a very good form and can achieve good results in the future.
“Because I’m 36 this summer, people are always asking me when I'm going to retire. But I’m not thinking about that at all,” the Australian driver said. “The contract is just for one year, but I'm looking to stay in F1 for longer than that. You try to do
that bit more, you perform better because you're that bit wiser and you get better results, so you end up staying longer anyway.”
Furthermore, he said that the competition is tough and in order to his mark stronger in the game he has to keep on making the essential improvements so as to come up stronger in the forthcoming races.
“It's an immensely challenging job trying to get the best out of a Formula 1 car and I'm competing with the best drivers in the world,” he said.
