Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far
Mark Webber, who started his Formula 1 career with the Benetton team being its test driver in 2001, is currently driving for Red Bull Racing.
He is performing very well for the team since the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Australian joined RBR in 2007 by signing a three-year deal with them. Webber still has a three-year contract with his current team that will end in 2012.
The team driver had a great time in the 2011 winter test session, where he developed an understanding with the new features of his RB7 car and understand the new rules about the sport.
Webber had a below par start in the ongoing season due to having a Kinetic Energy Recovery System issue in his car. He took part in the Australian Grand Prix, where he made progress during the qualifying round with the KERS issue. After struggling on the
new 2011 Pirelli tyres, he finished his race at the fifth place following the positive Qualifiers at the Albert Park circuit.
In the next round of the season, Webber tried to close his gap from the top-runners and finished his Malaysian Grand Prix in the fourth spot after started from the third place on the opening grid.
The 34-year-old driver finished his race on the podium for the first time in the 2011 Formula 1 season at the Chinese Grand Prix. He made a lot of struggle on the sets of the hard and soft tyres by Pirelli and finished his Shanghai race on the last stair
of the podium.
Webber seemed to make improvements in terms of his performance from the Chinese Grand Prix. In the 2011 Turkish Grand Prix, Webber finished his race at the second place for the team after putting all of his efforts during the race.
The qualifying round of the Spanish Grand Prix proved as very lucky for Webber, as he secured his pole place for the Sunday’s race for the first time in the ongoing season. After starting from the front row on the grid, the Red Bull driver ended up at the
fourth place, because both of the McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were faster as compared to him during the race.
He was again at the fourth place in the 2011 Monaco Grand Prix after the Spanish race weekend.
Webber was back on the podium in the Canadian race, where he started his Grand Prix from the fourth place and came in the third spot after struggling in the wet.
The Australian retained his third place in the next three rounds of the season held in Europe, Silverstone and Germany respectively.
In the Hungarian Grand Prix, Webber was 49.7 seconds off the pace of McLaren’s Jenson Button, who was the winner of the Budapest race. After a close fight with Hamilton and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa in the ending laps, the Red Bull driver finished his race
at the fifth place following his disappointing qualifying round at the Hungaroring racetrack.
The team driver has showed during his races in the season so far that he can fight in order to challenge the 2011 world championship.
