Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel still eager to win despite clear lead – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he is not going to relax and is going to push as hard as he can for victories despite the fact that he is currently 77 points ahead of his closest rivals Jenson Button and Mark Webber.
“To be honest I don't really think about the gap. I don't even know the gap, I think Jenson is second behind. But there is no importance in leading the championship now, the most important time is after the last race. I think we learnt that last year,” he
said.
He added that at the moment, he is completely focused on the first free practice session of the British Grand Prix which is expected to take place this weekend. Vettel is hoping for some good results this weekend even though it is expected Red Bull might
lose some pace as a result of the off-throttle Blown Diffuser ban.
Vettel has secured 6 race wins with the help of 7 pole positions in just 8 races as a result of which, this is one of the most dominating starts to a Formula 1 season ever by a driver.
“Obviously we are in a bit of a different position right now compared to last year but it's still a very, very long way to go and a lot of points to get. I think with the points system we run today it might be tempting to feel too safe. Really I try to go
race by race and step by step,” he said.
The reigning world champion pretty much has it ‘in the bag’ for this season as beating him is going to require a ‘miracle’ from McLaren and Ferrari’s side.
However, since the upcoming race might change things a little due to the sudden rule change, it is believed that there is still hope for the two teams. The 2011 Formula 1 season might just start getting a little bit more interesting starting from this weekend.
Let’s see how it unfolds in Silverstone.
