Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel takes pole for 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel surprised his competitors in Hungaroring and took the pole position for the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix set to take place on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
This is the 2010 defending champion’s eighth pole position of the ongoing 2011 season and a consecutive 11th pole for Red Bull Racing in the campaign.
After an unimpressive performance in the first two practice sessions of the race weekend, Red Bull Racing worked overnight to make sure they addressed the issues with Vettel’s car and help him get back on the top again. As a result, Vettel topped not only
the qualifier of the Hungarian GP, but he also dominated the third practice session earlier on Saturday.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes, who throughout the first two sessions of the qualifiers looked the most promising to take the pole position, was closely behind the German in second place. Hamilton clocked a best time of 1 minute and 19.978 seconds, just
0.163 of a second behind Vettel.
Hamilton’s teammate, Jenson Button was also closely behind the duo with a best time of 1 minute and 20.024 seconds.
Following the top three were the two Ferraris who will be disappointed with their Q3 result as Alonso could not improve on his Q2 time and finished in fifth place just behind his teammate Felipe Massa who clocked a best time of 1 minute and 20.350 seconds.
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber was in a disappointing sixth place and was marginally ahead of Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg who will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from seventh place.
Adrian Sutil of Force India-Mercedes was in eight place almost half a second ahead of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes GP who came ninth in the session. Sergio Perez of Sauber rounded off the top ten drivers.
The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the legendary Hungaroring circuit in Budapest. Let’s see if Vettel maintains his dominance and strengthens his position at the summit of the 2011 drivers’ championship on Sunday.
