Red Bull Racing eager to sign Mark Webber for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that they are eager to sign a contract with their driver Mark Webber for 2013.
Webber took an incredible victory in the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit and is presently standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. Moreover, he is 13 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari
and 16 points ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel.
It has been reported that the Australian driver may leave his current team as his contract is going to expire at the end of this season. Nevertheless, Horner expressed that they are very keen to keep Webber in their team for the next season.
“Absolutely. As always with Mark, things are pretty straightforward. He's been with the team for seven seasons and he's had all his success in Formula One with that team and we'd like to see that continue,” he said.
Besides, there have been many speculations that Webber may join Ferrari after this season. However, Horner discharged all the rumours and said that they have developed a very good affiliation with the Aussie and are looking forward to extend the agreement
with him.
“I think, very simply, we have a great relationship with Mark. Mark wants to be in the team next year and therefore, as we've always stated, in the summer we'll sit down and talk about the future. That period of time is obviously coming up pretty close now,
so over the next few weeks we'll be talking about 2013,” Horner said.
It will be important to mention that Webber has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far and he is the second driver after Alonso who has secured two race victories.
In addition, Horner insisted that they are very much impressed by Webber’s performance in the season until now and expect to continue with him even after this season.
The defending championships are currently leading the constructors’ championship with 216 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of the Scarlet team which has come up quite stronger in the last race.
Let’s see how they perform in the upcoming season.
