Red Bull Racing explore Pirelli test options – Formula 1 News
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner has said that they are exploring the tyre testing options for Pirelli in order to improve their understanding about
the tyres to perform well in the 2013 Formula 1 season ahead.
After the decision of the International Tribunal regarding Mercedes secret test with Pirelli, the FIA have allowed the teams to run 2013 cars after getting the
necessary permission. However, no contender has agreed to run this year’s car in the test until now.
Contrarily, Red Bull are evaluating the option of conducting their test with their 2011 car as Ferrari did at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona earlier this season.
Horner has said that they are presently discussing the options with the Italian team. Moreover, he stated that they are waiting to get the necessary guidelines
from Pirelli regarding the tyre test. Besides, he said that they will do everything transparently so as to avoid any kind of criticism.
“We will see, it is something we have to discuss with Pirelli,” Horner is quoted as saying by Sporting Life.
“That is for them to judge, what they need and what they require from testing. Whatever happens it has to be done transparently. We don't want people sneaking off
behind closed doors - and wearing nondescript helmets,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pirelli motorsport director, Paul Hembery said that currently there are two teams which are interested in conducting the test with 2011 cars. However,
he insisted that they need 2013 cars for the test to evaluate their compound in a more profound manner.
“We're asking for [a 2013 car],” Hembery told ESPN. “We've got a couple of teams maybe interested in running a 2011 car and doing 1000km, which is good, but I think
the big thing is we'd like to get the 2013 car run.”
The Milton Keynes based squad are presently leading the constructors’ championship with 250 points and have a strong lead over their main rivals which include Mercedes,
Ferrari and Lotus.
It will be thrilling to see how they show up in the forthcoming races after conducting the tyre tests with Pirelli.
