Red Bull Racing feeling the heat as they use one of their ‘overtimes’ at the Hungarian Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing team was unable to cope up with McLaren or Ferrari’s pace during both of the Friday free practice sessions of this weekend’s 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix as a result of which, they decided to use one of their ‘overtimes’ of the season.
According to the Formula 1 regulations, no team is allowed to work on their cars during 2am to 8am but only in case of very important repair work or due to technical failures. However, the teams are only allowed to work during those hours four times in a
season and if they do it for a fifth time, they are penalised.
A team using the timings has to inform the officials about their ‘overtime’ usage. After a disappointing Friday at the Hungaroring, RBR used their first overtime which is a clear sign that the team is now feeling the pressure.
Fernando Alonso recently stated that Sebastian Vettel should not ‘worry’ at all about 2011 championship as he has a pretty good lead over his rivals but still, it seems that the team wants to stay competitive and score even better results during the remainder
of the season with consistency.
Ferrari and McLaren have been closing in on them since the past couple of races as a result of which, RBR have not been able to score a victory since the past two races that is the British Grand Prix and the German Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso secured his first victory of the season at Silverstone while Lewis Hamilton scored McLaren’s 3rd victory of the season at the Nurburgring.
Other than that, Hamilton was just 5 hundredths of a second short of Mark Webber’s pole position scoring time at the German Grand Prix as a result of which, it seems that RBR’s qualifying pace is deteriorating as well.
The only thing the team needs to worry about at the moment is consistency and if they take some sort of risk at any of the races and fail to execute their strategy, they could even face a retirement which is the last thing RBR or Sebastian Vettel want at
the moment.
